Arranmore/Tory - Guided Walking Weekend 


 

 

Arranmore is 5 km off the coast of Donegal. It`s population of just under 500 people depend mainly on tourism and some fishing to make a living.

It has been inhabited since pre-Celtic times but retains only a few signs of any early settlement. The island is in the Donegal Gaeltacht so most of the inhabitants speak Irish.

Tory island is 14.5 km off Donegal. The island is strong links to Irish history and mythology. It is also an island of Irish speakers and has been inhabited since 2500BC.

Arranmore - Arranmore, Co. Donegal, Ireland

We will meet at the 4* An Chuirt Hotel in Gweedore, where we will base ourselves for the weekend. Dinner will be at 7.30pm on Friday and Saturday evenings and 8.30pm on Sunday evening.

On Saturday morning we will get a bus to Burtonport to catch the 9.45am ferry to Arranmore and we will get the 5pm ferry that eveining.

We will complete a 14km loop walk on the island.

On Sunday morning we will get a bus to Magheroarty to catch the 11am ferry to Tory island and we will get the return ferry back at 5.30pm that evening.

We will walk a 10km loop walk on Tory.

The walks for this weekend are of moderate difficulty.

Hiking boots, rain gear, fleece, hat, gloves and a packed lunch are essential for this weekend. If you are not adequately prepared the guide may refuse to allow you to participate.

  • Return bus from hotel to both ferry points.
